I have to be honest. I’m not a fan of summer. More specifically, I’m not a fan of the face-melting heat. I much prefer the gripping cold of winter, when I can be bundled up in several layers of clothing.
But for me, the summer has always offered more than it's face melting heat and sudden downpours of rain. It has always been a time spent with family. Since I was young, I have always enjoyed a majority of my free days with them. Whether it was just an evening of games, a day trip into town or simply hanging out at the house.
No matter the struggles in life, my parents always managed to make summer special for us. Not through epic trips or awesome staycations - but by spending time with us.
So while I recoil into the shade and resist shorts and t-shirts, I hold steadfast to the memories I’ve been able to make with them. I’m forever grateful for the times together the summer has allowed us.
Even though I’m an adult now, spending much of this season at work, it will always hold a special place in my heart. For me, that’s what the summer is about - building memories with my family.
